It's Tuesday & the sun is out! I woke up exhausted today because I went to a "Barre" or "Ballet Body Fusion" class last night. Someone described the class as the new zumba. As a dancer, i'm all about cardio that doesn't involve machine and this class is a mixture of core strength, ballet toning, and cardio dance. Such a good workout!

My instructor formats the class a little differently. Even though it's technically a "barre" style class there are no Ballet Bars in the studio, so we use weight bars for balance & stability. We start with some deep stretching and then warm up into pirouettes & basic moves. This is generally followed by some cardio dance sequences. This ballet portion of the class usually last around 30 minutes, and we finish off with some heel raises and inner thigh toning. The second half of the class is more Mind & Body and Pilates focused. I love this format because I am one of those people who gets really bored by doing the same thing for an hour. This half & half style class really keeps me interested and engaged.

I attend classes at my local health club, but there are a few Barre Studios around town. I highly recommend the class, it really is an entire full body workout. Have you tried Barre? Thoughts?

GREY LACE & WHITE PENCIL SKIRT - 30X30 - Day 18

I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day weekend. I personally think that of all of the ridiculous holidays that we "celebrate" [really St. Patrick's day? Cinco de Mayo?] It's pretty damn cool that there is a holiday dedicated to love. Even the most cynical ladies manage to make sweeping declarations of love in the caption of their classic flower & chocolate heart pics. I think it's great. We should celebrate more often, god knows our economy could use the stimulus, and it will remind us that love is always louder.

How was your holiday weekend? Still binge eating the chocolate? Or all your all out of the milk chocolate ones and only have dark left?

OUT OF SIGHT - 30X30 - Day 13

Okay, i'm not gonna lie. This 30x30 is getting hard. Not because i'm running out of outfits, I actually feel pretty good right about now, but because I miss my other clothes. There are beautiful silk blouses and printed pencil skirts that call my name every morning when I look into my closet. Instead, I have to pick out solid colored pieces. It's a sinister tease.

If it wasn't for my "you can wear whatever you want in the evening" clause, i'd probably be loosing it. Next time around, I need to invest in a hanging wardrobe and only put the select 30 pieces on that rack. Out of sight, out of mind... right?

17 outfits left, wish me luck.

WEDNESDAY WISHLIST: B&W Pencil Skirts Under $50

The Leather     -     The Houndstooth     -     The Tribal     -     The Printed     -     The Gridlock

The necessity for a great pencil skirt is so obvious it almost seems silly saying it out loud, however if you are shifting careers, rebuilding your professional wardrobe, or just getting started this is a great place to begin. A simply black or white (or both) pencil skirt is incredible versatile and can be easily paired with the million black/white tops that you already have in your closet + bonus you can pair them with any bright colored blouses. My favorite way to take this look into fall, is to pair it with a some sheer black tights and a closed-toe pump (no peep-toes!) The subtle elegance will class up your wardrobe and keep the heads turning!

Do you own a black / white pencil skirt?
